Upon learning that we were getting an animal shelter in Elk Grove, Arnie and I founded the nonprofit:

 Friends of Elk Grove Animal Shelter in  September of 2016.


July of 2018, we adopted a rescue in need of a great deal of care.  (please read the amazing story of our Precious in our blog)  Facing medical challenges and costs, we soon realized a great need in our community.  Helping those who have to choose between surrendering their pet or euthanizing due to lack of funding for emergency medical and dental veterinary costs.


We then focused this need through our new nonprofit,

 Paws for a Purpose.


By doing so, pets get to stay with the family that loves them. Also,  the shelter will not be burdened with pets that don't belong there.

June has lived in Elk Grove since 1981. She worked in Sacramento for 10 years before joining the Elk Grove Unified School district. After 17 years of employment there, retirement called. Having volunteered at the SSPCA since 2008 and seeing the severe necessity for a shelter in Elk Grove, she began advocating for one. With the knowledge of a new shelter being build, she and her husband, Arnie founded the nonprofit Friends of Elk Grove Animal Shelter. This nonprofit will carry forward her mission to help animals in the Elk Grove Community.

CO-FOUNDER

Arnie has lived in Elk Grove since 1981. He owned and operated E.G. Safe, Lock and Security for over 25 years. He along with his wife June, founded the nonprofit, Friends of Elk Grove Animal Shelter in 2016. His love and compassion for animals grows every day and considers the nonprofit a beneficial way to help.

TERYN SMOTHERS

BOARD MEMBER

Over the last 14 years, I have dedicated myself to saving animals of all species. Professionally, I have worked as trainer, hospital administrator, as well technician specializing in exotics. My love of animals has taken me to the Middle East many times to provide veterinary care for the strays of Turkey. My personal pets include my beloved rescues: Bruce, Chai, and Lulu. In my spare time I enjoy fostering and spending time with my partner, Fredi.
